Well.... if we've done our work right, it's going to be a blast.  The unexpected move has left us scrambling a bit at the last minute, but things are really coming together.  Here are some details you may be interested in.

The Ceremony
Well, it won't be traditional.  Jim Gordon, a close friend to both of us, will be performing the ceremony that we will write (eventually).  Thanks to an e-mail and a $10 donation to the Universal Life Church, Jim is now a Reverend.    The ceremony will be short -- with a few remarks from Jim and the exchange of vows by Tanya and Carl.  Susanna Ruegger will be Tanya's bridesmaid, and Joe Russack will be Carl's best man.  Everything will be outdoors, so please cross your fingers for the blessings of Mother Nature.  However, bring sun block and a jacket just in case!

Food and Drinks
Oh what a spread we have planned!  As you know, we like to eat and drink well, so our wedding will be no exception.  We've hired a great caterer -- Kathy Baptista at A Taste of Elegance.   Kathy has catered weddings at the Whaling Station before, so we think she and her staff will do a great job. Vegies and vegans -- don't fear!  You will have lots of yummy options.  No boring pasta primavera for you!

Drinks:  A good selection of beverages and particularly nice wines.  (see the list)   Sorry folks, no open bar (hic!).
Alcohol '96 Carignane - River Run Vintners, Cienega Valley, Wirz Vineyard.  River Run is a small, family run vineyard in Watsonville.  This wine is amazing, similar to a Merlot  in smoothness, but with just a hint of spice.  We liked it so much we bought three cases!
'96 Reserve Chardonnay - Ventana Vineyards, Monterey.  I'm not a big Chardonnay fan (California ones tend to be too buttery for me) but this one is just right... full and rich with just a hint of oak and butter.
Champagne - Moet & Chandon Blanc de Noir. This is our  favorite champagne and a great place to tour in Napa.
    Beer - Anchor Steam Ale
  Non-alcoholic Coke
    Coffee
    Sparkling mineral water
    Martinelli's sparkling cider

Food: Check out the menu!
Passed Hors d'oeuvres Gravlax - served on thin slices of black bread with mustard dill spread.
Sweet Red Pepper Crepes - brandied crepes, wrapped around brie and served warm.
At the Tables Crusty Rolls -- in baskets, served with rosemary butter.
Baby Greens - tossed with orange slices and beets in a citrus shallot vinaigrette, topped with pine nuts.
At the Buffet Roast Leg of Lamb - rolled with a leek and orange zest filling, then roasted with a dijon orange and garlic baste, served with cucumber sour cream sauce.
Chardonnay Roasted Salmon - filets seasoned with lemon, dill, garlic and Chardonnay, accompanied by a cucumber, papaya, red pepper jicama salsa.
Parmesan Polenta Layered With Grilled Vegetables - mushrooms, zucchini, onions, yellow squash and herbs.
Wild and White Rice Salad - fresh corn, celery, cherry tomatoes and olives, seasoned with a lime-chipotle chili vinaigrette.
Tomato Platter - heirloom tomatoes sliced  and plattered with capers, pine nuts, mozzarella and basil, with balsamic dressing served on the side.
Cake Lemon cake with lemon custard and whole raspberries, covered with an inner  layer of buttercream frosting and an outer layer of white chocolate.  Cake courtesy of Jim Gordon and Dinna Voges (thanks guys!) and baked by those wizards at Patisserie Bechler in Pacific Grove.
Favors Such a treat!  Richard Donnelly, the renowned Santa Cruz choclatier, is making us milk and dark  chocolate bears to give to you all.   Eat 'em up, yum!

Music
We've booked a great band -- India with Straight Ahead -- a jazz trio with a great singer.  Expect music along the lines of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald -- light swing and jazzy blues.   You can check them out at: http://gate.cruzio.com/~noel/india/.   What can we say .... our band has its own web site.

The Whaling Station has brick floors which are slightly rough, but we think dancing will be fine.  At the very least we will shuffle through a first dance (or two or three), so bring your dancing shoes!

Clothes and Colors
Clothes:  We do have rather a schizophrenic combination of casual and traditional elements at our wedding, and our clothes choices are no exception.  Tanya will be wearing a long white dress, but no poofy skirt and no veil over her face.  Carl will be wearing a snazzy three-button black suit with a colorful shirt and tie.  Susanna will be wearing a lilac, long gown and both Jim and Joe will be wearing black suits.  The goal here is to co-ordinate, but not necessarily to match.  Most of all, we plan to be comfortable and have a good time.

Colors: What else -- purple and green!  You'll see the theme everywhere -- from flowers, to tablecloths, to gowns.
